Lesson Plan: Week 3

Today I finished my lesson plan for a World Geography class for week 3. Being in AEP education, we do not usually create many lesson plans. Therefore, creating this plan was a reminder to me of something I have not done since I was student teaching. I had forgotten how fun, yet tedious it can be to create a lesson plan for a class.

I did my work this week backwards in a sense. I created my book before I created my lesson plan. Because I made my book about states and capitals, I also decided to make my lesson plan on the same subject.

It amazes me that, when I inform my students that I am from Arkansas, they immediately think (geographically speaking) of either Arizona or Alabama. And when I inform these same students that I lived in Tennessee for a couple of years, some have no clue whatsoever about where it is. So while many would assume that teaching states and capitals would be elementary, as I once did, I do not believe it is a correct assumption. Therefore, I think it is an important part of a curriculum for high school ages as well.
